“She likes to travel to different places. Before Children of the Silk Road, she had been filming in a wilderness location in Norway for a movie called Far North  and she relishes having the opportunity to play characters who aren’t necessarily Asian. In the science fiction film Sunshine (2007), writer Alex Garland and director Danny Boyle were not looking specifically for an Asian actress for the part she played. “But I coveted that movie,” Yeoh says, “and they changed their minds.” And in a new film that comes out later this year, Babylon AD, directed by Matthieu Kassowitz, “a wonderful director,” the role she takes was originally written for a French woman.”
